ABOUT THE BUSINESS:
After completing her shlichut Efrat decided to examine
the Israeli Ethiopian cuisine market. She initially offered
catering services to members of the Ethiopian community,
for family events, parties and other functions.
After this proved to be successful she decided to widen
her circle of clients and to offer her services to the general
public. The orders soon came in and, at the beginning of
2013, Efrat found herself at a crossroads with regard to the
business.
Her home kitchen could not accommodate the volume of
orders she received, nor could she provide catering services
to places that required permits, kashrut licenses etc. She
decided to expand her business activity, and started to
look for premises from which she could operate catering
services and a restaurant. After conducting an extensive
search Efrat identified a place on Haneviim Street, in the
industrial area of Ashdod, where there is a large number
of all kinds of restaurants.
Efrat’s restaurant offers authentic Ethiopian food with
Israeli touches. She pays great attention to the quality
of the food, and on using the best possible quality raw
materials. She bakes fresh bread there every day.
Efrat is gaining a growing reputation, and customers
Efrat would like to thank the UJA-Federation
come to her from all over Israel. The restaurant is named
of New York Loan Fund for Israel for
after her mother Addis, and Alem comes from the Hebrew
its help with opening the restaurant,

and in particular for the opportunity to
memorialize her mother through the world
of cooking, to return to the wonderful
flavors of her childhood, and to share them
with her Israeli customers.
