Dagan Livny
Jewish Agency Youth Movement Shlichah to FZY
Dagan was born and raised in Israel, served in the IDF as an
education officer at Yad Vashem, and holds a BA in Middle East
Studies, Sociology and Anthropology. Her last position was
coordinator for Israel’s national Perach Tutorial Project, which
matches university students with at-risk youth.
Be’er Sheva – a Microcosm of Israeli Society
A sociological review of Israeli society using Be’er Sheva as a
case study. The session will cover religious, ethnic, ideological,
socio-economic and national perspectives, showing how they are
reflected in Be’er Sheva – a fascinating city that is home to a variety
of populations.
How Did Israel Become the Start-Up Nation?
An anthropological overview of Israeli and Jewish creativity. We will
discuss different studies about the “Jewish mind” and talk about
historical and anthropological factors that can explain Israel's
development into the Start-Up Nation.
Pluralism, Rifts and Diversity in Israeli Society
We will discuss pluralism as a concept, a goal and a state of mind in
a postmodern society. Then we will focus on Israel as a case study,
a society in which pluralism is a core principle, yet with rifts caused
by great diversity.
