ENTREPRENEUR’S BACKGROUND:
Yossef was born in 1955. He is married to Ruth and has 5
children. He served in the IDF as a designated marksman
instructor, in a combat unit, and is a licensed electrician.
He began working in agriculture in 1980 when he moved to
Gush Katif, where he worked an area of some 80 dunams for
30 years. He cultivated all kinds of pest-free leafy crops, such as baby mix lettuce, spring onions, coriander and others,
both on the ground and on raised beds.
In the aftermath of the Disengagement Yossi did not work between 2005 and 2007. However, he prepared for the
relocation ahead of time and, in 2007, he reestablished his hothouses, with 52 dunams of constructed hothouses, and
another 20 dunams which are currently under construction. All told, over NIS 10 million has been invested in the farm,
including all Yossi’s savings, and his personal and business compensation.
Yossi’s two sons also work on the farm, in addition to local and foreign workers who engage in cultivating pest-free
vegetables, under the supervision and strict kashrut licensing of the Badatz (rabbinical court) of the ultra-orthodox
community in Jerusalem.
