ABOUT THE NATIONAL INSTITUTIONS
Israel’s National Institutions – the World Zionist Organization, the Jewish Agency for Israel, Keren Kayemeth
LeIsrael and Keren Hayesod – are the organizations established by the Zionist Movement to help bring about the
founding of a Jewish State. Today they continue to work together cooperatively to advance the Zionist enterprise.
THE JEWISH AGENCY FOR ISRAEL
Since 1929, The Jewish Agency for Israel has worked to secure a vibrant Jewish future. The Jewish Agency was
instrumental in founding and building the State of Israel and we continue to serve as the main link between the
Jewish state and Jewish communities everywhere. This global partnership has enabled us to address the Jewish People's
greatest challenges in every generation.
Today, we connect the global Jewish family, bringing Jews to Israel, and Israel to Jews. We build a better society in
Israel – and beyond – energizing young Israelis and their worldwide peers to rediscover a collective sense of Jewish
purpose. The Jewish Agency continues to be the Jewish world's first responder, prepared to rescue and bring Jews home
to Israel from countries where they are at-risk, and to assist Israelis during times of crisis.
WORLD ZIONIST ORGANIZATION
The World Zionist Organization (WZO), founded by Theodor Herzl in 1897, is a major partner of The Jewish Agency.
Its mission is to promote the Zionist idea as a vital and essential element of contemporary Jewish life. Its agenda is based
on The Jerusalem Program, its official platform, which includes instilling the centrality of Israel and Jerusalem deep within
Jewish consciousness, encouraging Aliyah, strengthening Jewish life in the Diaspora, promoting Zionist education and
Hebrew language instruction, developing rural communities in Israel, Israel advocacy, combating global anti-Semitism
and the delegitimization of Israel, and fashioning Israel as an exemplary society in fulfillment of the Zionist ideal.
KEREN KAYEMETH LEISRAEL-JEWISH NATIONAL FUND
Since its founding by the WZO in 1901, Keren Kayemeth LeIsrael - Jewish National Fund has been reclaiming
and developing the land with a loving touch, strengthening the bond between the Jewish people and its homeland,
responding to the needs of the country and preserving Israel's natural and cultural heritage. From its very beginning,
KKL-JNF has led an unprecedented forestry project, which transformed a desolate land into a marvelous green country.
Today its efforts are focused on six action areas that include the development and management of water resources,
afforestation and environmentalism, education, community development and security, tourism and recreation, and
research and development.
KEREN HAYESOD
Keren Hayesod-United Israel Appeal has been at the forefront of Israel’s growth and progress for nearly a century.
Founded in 1920 as the fundraising arm of the Zionist movement, it played a decisive role in marshalling the resources
needed to establish an independent, sovereign state. It operates today in 45 countries, furthering the national priorities
of Israel, both independently and as a major partner in The Jewish Agency, particularly in the areas of aliyah and
absorption and aiding Israel's weaker populations.
